Talking In Their Sleep

Sleep alluded me last night. No reason really. I was just awake. To make some use of my time, I prayed for my sweet husband, family & friends, the season...and I listened to my children. Their sweet breaths in and out, their occasional snore...and their dreams.

It's tradition in our home that when Dad's on a business trip...I have company in the bed. They snuggle in and we talk or watch a movie until it's time to go to sleep. This was one of those nights.  But last night I, lying awake afforded me a privileged to see into their hearts.

"...for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh." Matthew 12:34b

"But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart;" Matthew 15:18a

"A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh."   Luke 6:45

Last night I heard what was stored up in the hearts of my children.  Upset in his dream, I listened to him defend right from wrong...my heart was blessed. "You can't punch a group of girls!  You CAN'T punch a group of girls!" No matter what was going on in that dream he knew what was happening, or about to happen, was wrong. Chivalry...even in his sleep.

Both of my children spoke truth in their dreams. Out of the abundance of their hearts flowed words of Life.

I wish I could remember the other words they spoke that touched me as I listened. But their words have slipped through the crevices of my sleep-robbed thoughts this morning.

I pray that what pours forth from my lips during my waking hours are testimony to my Lord and Saviour. That HE fills my heart into the deep places so that from His abundance flows my mouth with words of Life, Healing, Joy, Peace...

What do your lips reveal about the abundance of your heart? Is it Life or Death?

Christmas Contentment

It's December. Winter has been held at bay here in Texas as the temperatures have hoovered around 80°. For me, exchanging the grandeur of this year's autumn for the celebrations of the winter has been difficult. Our house is sparely decorated this year...and I think it will stay that way.

My daughter told me a few days ago that she loves that we don't put up a lot of decorations. She said,

"We have lights on the house and some garland, your snowman that you've had since you were 2 and the manger...what more do we want?"

Out of the mouth of babes, right?

I can so easily get caught up in the "stuff" of Christmas that it pushes aside the focus I am trying to keep in the forefront our hearts and minds during this season of celebration. I love, love winter decor and Christmas "cheer"...but it's just packaging, right?

NOW...Don't get me wrong! The twinkle of the lights and the warmth of the garland makes me smile just as much as then next person! And I know that beauty is such a reflection of our marvelous creator...but this year, I'm going to lay my desire to adorn our physical home in its winter array and practice contentment with the abundance that I already possess, spending my time resources to intentionally adorn our hearts with the Joy that comes from family and friends gathering, stories being told and reflections on the sweetness of a child King born to save the world.

WHY? Because Jesus is the LIGHT of our home, the heartbeat of who we are as a family, and the glue that ties us all together.

I am looking forward to joining creation as we Praise the Father for Jesus' birth, life, death and Resurrection...showering gifts on my sweeties, friends and family...eating good food...enjoying the festivities that bring people together...soaking in the joyous music that exalts the Lord... and even the relishing the memories of a year passing as the Christmas season concludes and a New Year is Born.

Merry Christmas to you and yours!  May you be blessed as you follow the Spirit in your celebrations this year and may the reason for Jesus' birth move you in a new and powerful way!

The Light of Change

The vibrant and fiery colors of the trees are almost gone. In Texas, it takes until the end of November for this beautiful display to play out…I am thankful for the longevity.

As each new autumn rolls in, I notice. I notice what type of tree changes first. I notice their colors. I notice which side of the the tree turns first…and I take note of why.

As the sun peaks over the tree tops, the fiery leaves of the treetops are illuminated by the sun. As the sun’s radiant beams touch another tree as it’s shaft radiates through the various obstructions..another tree is changing.

Do you long to exude vibrant colors? Do you need change that is miraculous and beautiful? Do you want your life to stand out among the forest of trees?

Stand in the Light of the SON.

“In him was life; and the life was the light of men. Here was a man sent from God, whose name was John. The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe. He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world. Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life. While ye have light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light. For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light. But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy. Again, a new commandment I write unto you, which thing is true in him and in you: because the darkness is past, and the true light now shineth.”

John 1:4, John 1:7-9, John 8:12,John 12:36, Ephesians 5:8, 1 Peter 2:9-10, 1 John 2:8

If you really want to shine with brilliant colors of LIFE…stay, abide, Live in the light of the SON of God…Jesus Christ.
